Green Freight Europe (Europe)

With over 180 participating companies, the Green Freight Europe (GFE) program provides a standardized system for reporting activity, calculating emissions and efficiency performance metrics, and industry-average benchmarking for road freight carriers, shippers, and logistics operations in Europe. The program also provides a platform for sharing industry best practices and technological innovations among its participants. Under development since 2009 and officially launched in 2012, the program design was largely inspired by the SmartWay program and incorporates many similar features, such as the use of carrier-specific performance metrics by shippers in calculating carbon footprints for their supply chains. GFE actively seeks cooperation with related programs to promote harmonized carbon accounting for the global freight sector.
