Global Logistics Emissions Council (GLEC) meeting
Smart Freight Centre is hosting the third annual US meeting of the Global Logistics Emissions Council on October 2nd. Open to both members and non-members, this one-day meeting will share the practical experience from companies using the GLEC Framework to track greenhouse gas emissions from rail, road, air and sea transport both in direct operations and in the supply chain.
Global Climate Action Agenda (GCAA) - Transport Initiatives Meeting
Inspired by the call to action by Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in September 2014 and followed up by the Lima Paris Action Agenda (LPAA), 15 transport initiatives developed by non-state actors in the transport sector were showcased during COP21. These initiatives covering passenger and freight transportation aim at fostering action towards reducing the sector's climate and health impacts. In 2017, six new transport initiatives were formed and added to GCAA.
China’s International Workshop on Green Freight Technology Assessment
On November 15-16, 2017, the ICCT co-organized the International Workshop on Green Freight Technology Assessment with Research Institute of Highway, Ministry of Transportation (MoT) and other NGOs. The workshop was hosted by the Chinese Ministry of Transportation (MoT) and US EPA, intending to provide an in-depth overview of US EPA’s SmartWay and green technology verification program.
The 23rd Conference of the Parties (COP23) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), presided by the Government of Fiji, takes place in Bonn, Germany from November 6–17, 2017. COP23 will be essential for both negotiations and a pathway forward on how to implement the Paris Agreement.

How to expand green freight programs across Europe and promote collaboration between them
The event brings together governments, industry and civil society to explore how to expand green freight programs across Europe and promote collaboration between them. Green Freight Programs supplement policies and empower industry to take practical actions that make the global freight sector more efficient and environmentally sustainable. The CCAC Global Green Freight Action Plan supports this by aligning and replicating green freight programs worldwide and integrating black carbon and air pollutants alongside CO2 emissions.
CCAC Scientific Advisory Panel Expert Workshop on Near Term Metrics for Accounting and Reporting in Black Carbon and Methane Interventions
The ultimate goal of the workshop is to come to a scientifically credible consensus on how to quantify the near-term impacts and multiple benefits of methane and black carbon emission abatement interventions, taking into consideration the climate, health, agricultural, economics and other development perspectives. The workshop would also provide guidance on emissions inventory development and reporting on emissions reduction actions within and outside the Coalition, especially for black carbon.

European Launch of the GLEC Framework
The Global Logistics Emissions Council (GLEC), led by the Smart Freight Centre, welcomes you to the European launch of the GLEC Framework for Logistics Emissions Methodologies on 15 November in Brussels. The event will also mark the start of the European Commission funded project Logistics Emissions Accounting and Reduction (LEARN) that will drive companies adopting the GLEC Framework with the support from a global multi-stakeholder network.
